Heh :-) so there is some benefit of having the optional clean as the
1st line - so it can easily be avoided in a cut/paste of the commands;
but - as you like ...

For me it's not really copy-friendly either way. I would usually do "cd foo && make clean && make -r; cd ..", as I'm not keen on polluting my command history with individual commands and absolute paths. Ctrl+R is a good friend of mine.
