1 Tonne = 1000kg = 2,202 (and a bit) lbs
1 ton = 20cwt = 20*8st = 20*8*14lbs = 2240lbs - at least in England!

But I seem to recall coming across a ton of some sort = 2000lbs, I just 
can't remember where.
