Subject: Power management issue?

I have noticed that if I ever have a closing down problem (Win95, 100CT, 64MB) - e.g.
if I get a hang on close-down at the <Wait while closing windows> screen - it is
usually after a lengthy session (is an hour or so lengthy??) on the Libretto during
which the machine may have been left unattended at some stage for about 30mins and
have entered the auto screen switch-off mode at least once during that period. Despite
using the computer <after> the display-off mode I get the impression the HDD activity
is never as fast again as it was before - things tend to be sluggish and therefore
unless enough time is allowed after closing down an application (often Internet
Explorer/Outlook express) for the disk to sort out what I imagine are the temp files
it is likely to hang (maybe that is not the right phrase) or fail to close down
completely.
My power management settings appear to be in order - I usually have them on high speed
settings as I nearly always am using the mains power supply. I also use a
cache-management program (CacheSentry) in tandem with my use of IE4 and would not
think this would cause a problem - if anything that should help the situation based on
my past experience with IE4.

Ideas?
