FWIW in the case of my L110, the BIOS and boot from floppy symptoms were the
same, however I heard nothing at all from the drive. Ultimately the HDC was
given a clean bill of health and the HDD was declared toast.
Sounds like the first thing to try would be plumbing the HDD into another
machine and see if it works there.
