Since my enhanced port replicator doesn't work on my 110, and ive had to resort to
using the *dumb* PR and insert/remove type II pc cards several times a day, is one
slot or the other *safer* to use to avoid this problem? Or is this problem just for
50/70 series machines?

Subject: ct50 video ram - a word of warning
Eyup,
You may recall messages here discussing a vertical stripe problem on the
display of a CT50 that weren't due to faulty connectors or cabling. The
giveaway is that the fault is also visible on the external monitor
connection, and windows may drop the video mode to 16 colours (though this
is hard to see with the screen nasties!)
I've had the machine in question, and the fault was due to solder joints
cracking on the video ram. This ram is situated on the *bottom* of the
board, under the protective plastic visible in the pcmcia slot. It's also
right at the outside edge.
Although the machine in question has had a rough life, it looks as if this
area is sensitive to board movement in the same way that the main ram is
sensitive to fat disc drives being inserted.
So have a care while inserting pcmcia cards, guys and gals...repair is not
easy without specialist tools, and not guaranteed with them...
Cheers,
Neil
