Subject: Helpful tools for the Libretto - adorable's Recommendations!

Viruses are probably the biggest concern for most people.
McAfee VirusScan or Symantec Anti-Virus are recommended
accessories, and they should be updated weekly.

As for Viruses through attachments, the use of a non-IE/Outlook browser/email
like Netscape 4.77 helps because it is not vulnerable to the current crop of
Outlook-email based viruses (because it isn't Outlook!, and no VB scripting
either), along with having a good virus scanner updated weekly.
Heck, with all the lvBug attachments going about, I didn't
have to worry one bit opening up those emails in Netscape (poor souls at work
who used Outlook otherwise, well....)

On top of:
1) swtiching over to Netscape

2) using a frequently updated virus scanner (which is of little use anyways
against the
latest viruses because they have to know about the new ones before they can
catch
them - chicken and egg Q here)

3) add the free www.zonelabs.com ZoneAlarm on top with Email Quarantine turned
on
(it'll automatically strip some of those scripted viruses out before it even
gets into
your email) Plus, it'll block hackers from easily hacking into your PC and
taking it
over, let you know when any unauthorized programs try to access the web, and
let
you monitor network activity.

4) add the free www.webwasher.com WebWasher.
Amazing ad-banner removal program that'll strip every last bit of banner ads
off all of
your web pages you browse (ie = much faster web page downloads over a 56KB
modem because you're bandwidth isn't wasted downloading ad banners you don't
click on), can block all annoying popup ads and windows, strip out WebBugs
which
track your online activity, prevent scripted windows and elements from
activating, etc.

5) windowsupdate.microsoft.com and get all the latest security patches.

#3 & #4 & #5 are ==highly recommended==.

   These two alone will prevent a baby-hacker from causing most of the havok
they
easily can whip up through Javascripted web pages and probing your PC's IP
ports.
As an added plus, you never have to spend any more of your time downloading all

those ad banners that simply waste bandwidth.

    As an example, for me, WebWasher has blocked 41,722 ad banners since
January, 3,180 popup windows and more. If you estimate a 10K banner size,
that's or
417.222MB!!! of downloading that I didn't have to wait for (over a 56Kb modem,
that's
19 continous hours of ad banner downloading!!!!)

  d =)
