Hmm ... I wonder if there is any way of modifying the charging circuit of the 50 so
that it'll charge the battery whilst its running? Certainly its similar enough to work
with the same RAM, AC adapter, docking station and battery pack as the 70CT ... the
fact that its got to be OFF to charge the battery is a real pain in the backside as
I'm finding out now.

Speaking of which, perhaps thats why my battery meter is shot in my 50CT ... I've got
2 battery packs, a PA2497U (standard capacity battery pack listed for the 50CT, the
original pack) and a PA2452U (standard capacity battery pack listed for the 70CT, a
replacement I got). Both look identical, the latter pack sits perhaps half a
millimeter off flush (so it rocks ever so slightly more than the former pack, I'm
willing to put that down to the newer pack being cast in a different mold its that
slight), certainly both seem to work well enough (like I said, in a thrash test I got
70 minutes out of the new pack, the old pack would only last 30-odd minutes in the
same test).

Both packs seem to mislead the battery meter but the battery meter seems significantly
more accurate on the original (50CT) pack than on the newer (70CT) pack (it shows 0%
when I've really got about 20% left as opposed to over 50% left with the new 70CT
pack) ... until recently I was discounting it based on the assumption that the battery
meter was always inaccurate (I've got a Tecra 500CT which has the same problem but its
always used its own packs) but that the older pack seemed more accurate because it had
less capacity ... that was before I realized the charging circuits in both laptops was
different ... *shrug* ...

Of course, both laptops take the same high capacity battery pack so perhaps the
PA42497U and the PA2452U ARE identical and Toshiba are just being a little weird ...
*shrug* ... wouldn't be the first time
