Actually, I stumbled across the undocumented numeric keypad overlay just after I posted my question about how to get to it yesterday (and Pres confirmed its existance shortly after). The Libretto 50CT (and presumably above) DO have the numeric keypad which does transmit the right scancodes although the manual doesn't mention it (at least my manual doesn't, can't speak for later ones) and it isn't drawn on the keyboard itself (I ended up writing them in using indelible ink to stop myself from getting confused!). Fn-F11 acts as num lock (as does Fn-F10 for some funny reason), alternatively just hold down the Fn key. 0, P, ; and / become *, -, + and / respectively and M, J, K, L, U, I, O, 7, 8 and 9 become the numeric keypad numbers 0 to 9. Pressing Fn-F12 activates scroll lock, Fn-Alt becomes right-Alt and Fn-Ctrl becomes right-Ctrl to give the Libretto the full complement of 101 + 2 keys (the only key it IS missing is right-Window which for some reason doesn't appear when you press Fn-Window). To do your Alt-+ and Alt-- therefore you'd have to hold down Alt-Fn-; and Alt-Fn-+ respectively (assuming you haven't activated num-lock). Unfortunately, there isn't a num-lock light (and readers who are familiar with the Portege series will recognize this problem). Of course, it just occurs to me, you could use that as a neat April Fool's joke on someone who owns a Libretto and doesn't know about the existence of the overlay (and doesn't know how to deactivate num-lock) AND isn't on this list *grin* Also, unfortunately the other system functions normally performed by the overlay such as screen locking, power management, suspend, volume and display switching, assigned to Fn-F1 to Fn-F5 respectively on Toshiba laptops of that era (well, the Tecra series laptops of that era anyway), also don't work on the Libretto :-( - Raymond ************************************************************** http://libretto.basiclink.com - Libretto mailing list http://libretto.basiclink.com/archive - Archives http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/portable/faq.html - FAQ -------TO UNSUBSCRIBE------- Reply to any of the list messages.
