You _can_ turn the backlight off completely while keeping the screen on
(although pretty much impossible to see with it's current
reflectivityness) -- if you use the `libapm' program in Linux or *BSD
you can select 0,1,2,3 for the brightness, with 0 being the backlight
completely off and the screen still on.
