Hi! > have gone into devices and disabled it ... does anyone know > if that totally shuts down that IDE channel ! > or if it just causes Win2k to ignore anything to/from that device? The correct way to disable IDE-devices on Win2k-notebooks is to disable the device with a small icon in the system tray, ist is the same mechanism which is used to disable PCMCIA-cards before removing it. But how can I bring my desktop to display this icon in the tray?
