The problem is that most of the distributions have moved to pretty graphics 
installation programs, and they eat a lot of memory. Not all will allow you 
to load from the hd either. Copying to the hd works (as discussed) with M7 
and M7.1 on the 50 but not the 70, but only in the text installation version 
and this doesn't allow quite the same selection of facilities.

Of course, you could go to www.linuxfromscratch.com and roll your own...
