WinDAC32 is a pretty good shareware CD ripper, works under w95 to w2k. If 
you pay the share, it rips without help, otherwise you have to clear a 
hassle box after every track.

It leaves you with one file per track - I've written a tiny app to stitch 
them back into one big file before mpegging.

BladeEnc is a reasonably fast free encoder for dos or linux.
