1) available parts . laptops were designed for xx max ram depending on what's
available then.  thus, the latest 1GB memory modules weren't in mind for the
Libretto way back then.

I'm sure that if someone traces the memory lines all the way through the
machine and does a few low level tests, he'd find out if there's enough memory
lines to support bigger,custom modules.  but nobody's done that yet, so we're
stuck with whatever we have.  

even if the HW supports bigger ram, the memory layout of the bios/machine may
not, and that maybe something else you can't get around...

still, it's worth a try just to see what'll happen...

eg.the Libretto ff1100 can go to 96mb ram vs. the almost the same L110 at 64MB,
so there suggests that the difference was simply availability of ram modules
that were of high enough density.
