It seems indeed that he difference in your configuration and in mine is the OS.
I will make a new partition and install W98me and anly Mappoint + the excellent AGPS and see. I was yesterday driving from Brussels in Belgium where I live to Paris. When I arrived there I used Mappoint to find my way from one point of interest to the other. The Libretto did its job pretty well. Now, with AGPS installed, its higher refresh rate and its route re-calculation functionalities it can not be beaten.
