It's always a possibility, but the first check is - as Matt says - is to make sure all the connections are tight - the connector to the screen isn't always easy to get in properly. The second test is - if you have one of the extender backs or can borrow one - is to check whether anything comes out of the external video port. Is there a backlight on the screen? (You'll see that at the edges if the main screen is black) Or is there no backlight but a faint image - sometimes a strong light will show it. More Input!
