Subject: Recording audio on Librettos

Has anyone really gotten the process of recording audio into a quality, no-error waveform on a Libretto nailed down?

I know I've addressed this several times in the past few years, but I never really got all the problems ironed out. Seems we have fewer list members than in past years, but I'm wondering if anyone on the list has any experience3 with this.

I've gotten 99% of the way, but as I recall, my best recorded signals still contained a bunch of those annoying little clicks that you'll hear sometimes on a system where the audio isn't quite working right. The same little clicks that can pop up when burning music CDs when system settings/drivers aren't tweaked.

I think Lee was having that problem with MP3 playback at one point if I recall correctly, and suggested that it might not be a problem with the drives as I once was guessing. But it sure seems like it can be HDD/heat related, as my MP3 playback can start to click after the system has been on and working for some time. Shut it down, let it sit, boot it up, and no playback clicks. That with my old HDDs as well as the new 40GB one.

But it's recording I'd like to get tweaked. But that may mean investing in a $200-300 sound card that I'm not sure will record without these clicks after the investment.

Does anyone reading the list at this point have any experience at these sorts of things? I suppose I should ask over at atc the Hydrogen forums too.

Thanks,

Matt
