Matt - the appendix on the EZ-GIG user guide I included a link to on my earlier post suggests that I actually replace my existing drive with new one BEFORE copying and boot up with a floppy supplied by EZ-GIG which then steps through the procedure - maybe you missed something too as this seems to cover the lack of bootable cd...
George,
I didn't find a link to the EZ-Gig manual in any of your recent posts in the archives, but I did look at it on the Apricorn website:
http://www.apricorn.com/support/PDFs/ez-gigbookmanual1.4.pdf
In 'Appendix A' it does specifically address installation on Libretto 70/100. So you're right. You're all set there.
I just need to know whether I need to change the BIOS on my existing drive before I start the process and how do i do this??
The BIOS is part of your Libretto. I'm not quite sure specifically what BIOS issue was being addressed when it was suggested that you upgrade the Libretto's BIOS. But the 'Change History' listed in the BIOS 8.10 readme.txt files does show some changes to address PC Card problems in previous BIOS versions. So perhaps upgrading your Libby's BIOS might be a good idea, as EZ-Gig does involve a PC Card.
The BIOS upgrade is fairly simple. But it's critical that there is stable AC power to your Libretto throughout the process. A drop of power during the process of upgrading BIOS can damage the existing BIOS. Though there does seem to be a process for recovering from such a problem.
To create a boot floppy for upgrading your 100CT BIOS:
Download the v8.10 BIOS upgrade here:
http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/7100tv81.exe
[You can also access all downloads there by following this link, clicking on 'Downloads', and filling in the model information for your Libretto 100CT: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp]
Once offline, all programs closed, your floppy drive hooked up, and a disk inserted, find and double-click on the file 7100tv81.exe that you downloaded.
Click 'OK' on the 1st popup window, and the WinZip Self-Extractor window appears. You should see a box checked that says, "When done unzipping run: INSTINFO.BAT
Click 'Unzip'. You'll get a "Unzipped successfully" window. Click 'OK' there too and a black DOS window pops up.
Press the 'y' key where the DOS message asks if you wish to continue, and the floppy disk will be created.
From there it's just a matter of rebooting the system with that boot floppystill in the floppy drive, and following the instruction on the screen. You can read/print out the readme.txt file in the C:\7100tv81 folder where the floppy creation files were extracted for reference if you like. Here's the section relevent to our procedure:
