Does it get too hot? I got this running in my Lib110. Perfect HD. Doen't get extremely hot, i.e. not much more than the original 4.3 GB & Toshiba 6 GB drives. The HD activitu LED doesn't work, seems the Lib's IDE stuff is not fully compliant with the ATA standard (says Hitachi support). I've experimented with pull-up resistors on the DASP- line, no luck :-( > 3. RAM > > Any advice on what type/manuf of RAM to buy to upgrade to 64 MB ? > > I assume this is the max right? Right. > 4. If you use only Windows and Linux, go for PRISM-GT chipsets (802.11g), check http://prism54.org for a list of supported cards (there is a link to a much longer list on the prism54.org site). Try to avoid 802.11b (11 Mb/s), go for 802.11g (54 Mb/s). The very moment you put just one 802.11b wifi card in your wireless LAN, the entire wireless LAN will run at max 802.11b speed - that's what is called "interoperability with 802.11g" :^/ > 5. Win2K runs flawlessly, but is hampered a bit by only 64 MB max RAM. I am planning to install Win2K w/o IE & Outlook & WAB & ..., per instructions on Fred Vorck's website (i.e., avoiding IE already at install time rather than using Win2KLite or so). Hopefully that makes Win2K faster... Here, Win2K takes > 4 minutes to boot completely, i.e. including McAfee & ZoneAlarm. Games on Win2K are a no no, the keyboard etc. reacts much too slow compared to Win9x. > 6. All MD Linuces from MD6 & RedHat 6.2 ran OK. MD10 installation is on my list; the install kernels doesn't recognize the Lib's IDE HD, so I must put the HD in my desktop first to see if MD10 will run at all in the Lib110. Networkj installs are no more options since MD9.2 since more than 64 MB RAM is needed for that :-(( Everything can be made to work under Linux, including sound, video and floppy. See my home page at http://home.hccnet.nl/pr.nienhuis/Lib110CT.html (uhmmm... a bity outdated, sorry), and the Libretto Webring and the linux-laptops site for installation reports.
