Hey Philip... I also neglected to point out that this
problem persists with the driver for the AccuPoint
PS/2 mouse, as well as a couple of external PS/2 mice
Win98SE finds and configures automatically. This as
well as a Logitech cordless/optical PS/2 mouse set up
with manually from drivers on its CD.
In the past few years I've been seeing this, Device
manager has never reported any conflicts with the
various mice I've tried in attempts to resolve the
problem.
Right now I'm looking at a recent installation of
Win98SE on my L70, only the AccuPoint mouse. The only
item on the 'Resources' tab for its driver is
'Interrupt 12'. And it's using these driver files:
C:\Windows\System\mouse.vxd
C:\Windows\System\vmm32.vxd (vmouse.vxd)
C:\Windows\System\lmul.vxd
C:\Windows\System\lmouse.vxd
Here's what DM reports for the sound driver:
-------------------------------------
Yamaha OPL3-SAx WDM driver properties
Resources:
I/O Range: 0260-026F
I/O Range: 0540-0547
I/O Range: 0398-039B
I/O Range: 0340-0341
I/O Range: 0380-0381
Interrupt: 11
DMA: 01
DMA: 00
Drivers:
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\opl3sax.sys
C:\Windows\System\VMM32.vxd (ntkern.vxd)
C:\Windows\System\mmdevldr.vxd
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ks.sys
C:\Windows\System\ksclockf.ax
C:\Windows\System\kspintf.ax
C:\Windows\System\ksdata.ax
C:\Windows\System\ksinterf.ax
C:\Windows\System\ksproxy.ax
C:\Windows\System\ksuser.dll
-------------------------------------
So it doesn't seem to be an interrupt or file
conflict.

What I'm talking about seems to be the way Win98
operates out of the box. When I search for files in
Windows Explorer, I browse to the folder I want to
search recursively, right click on the folder, and
select 'Find'. However you'll notice that the 'My
Documents' icon is different, showing paper poking out
of the yellow folder. And if you right click on it,
there's no 'Find' menu option.
That sucks since that's where I put most all of my own
files. I end up clicking another folder, and then
browsing in the 'Find' window to 'My Documents'.
Looking through the rest of the folders in C:\Windows,
I see the same thing for all folders that have special
icons:
C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files
C:\Windows\Favorites (another folder I often search)
C:\Windows\History
C:\Windows\Offline Web Pages
C:\Windows\Tasks
The 'Find' menu item won't appear on any of these
folders when right clicked. There's got to be a hack
for this somewhere.

Huh... cool!
