That was mainly it. What boot disk are you using to do the installation? You have to take a look in the images directory on the first Mandrake 9 cd, and you'll see a bunch of IMG files. I believe the standard/most common boot disk is the cdrom.img image. The one you want for a USB CD-ROM install is the usb.img. It should give the details, including how to make a boot cd from an image in the install documentation - which is a text file on the CD itself. I can't be any more specific, as I don't have my Madrake 9 cds here right now.
