I've been thinking of doubling the clock for the cpu on the libby. I've had a little experience with that on other equipment--basically it can cause perpipheals like serial ports to run too fast. However as near as I can tell the mmx chip can take the heat with proper power management.
The amount of heat generated is going to vary to some degree from system to system. If you've ever done any testing of silicon based components, you know that no two of the exact same component ever end up with the same specs. Some CPUs just go faster and deal with higher heat than their rating right out of the ovens. Others might barely meet specs. Where most people had no problem O/Cing their 100CT's to 233 or 266, mine was always overheating and going into thermal shut down.
to be honest, it sounds like a problem with the thermometer on the board. power management is supposed to use that to regulate the heat dissapation (although why they waste all that heat in a battery operated piece of equipment--heh and not just battery operated but RECHARGABLE batteries I'll never know) of the cpu and your cpu should NEVER get very hot unless the system has gone bad.
Tho' I'm curious about how you can get the clock speed of the CPU on the 110 to go faster than 266. I thought Xin and others had already explored the limits there.
have to replace a crystal.
as far as memory upgrades go the easiest way to do them is get 4MBx16 50 60ns EDO chips and solder them right on top of the old ones. right on the motherboard. 32MB or 64MB
chips are the best. they can be found on sodimm memory expasion boards --
I've seen them going on ebay for about 20 bucks. you just have to pull the chips off the board. be sure you give yourself enough room to slide the hard drive back in!! :))
Go for it John!
next week..finally got the cash for it!!
