Hello everyone, I tried to install Windows XP Pro on my L100, but ran into a problem.
Maybe I didn't use the right procedure. I got a 18GB hard drive, installed it in my desktop (an old P3) as the primary drive, installed WinXP from the CD, then removed the hard drive, installed it in the Libretto, and tried to boot up. Well, WinXP won't start in the Libretto - it gets to the "Windows did not start normally last time . . . " screen, then whether I choose start normally, safe mode, or last good mode, it just stalls. On the other hand, when I install the hard drive back in my desktop, it boots WinXP fine. I am guessing that WinXP is baffled because the Libretto doesn't look like the desktop hardware it expects to see.
Can you help me understand the correct procedure to install Windows on my Libretto? I have the Libretto floppy, and a PCMCIA CD-ROM drive, if that helps. However, as I understand it the Libretto won't boot from a CD-ROM drive, and I have no "install floppy" for WinXP. I can also connect the Libretto's hard drive in my desktop as the secondary hard drive, if that helps.
Now, if the problem is that I shouldn't be running WinXP in the Libretto at all, then could you tell me if my second best O/S choice is Win98SE? I have that CD too. I need to run Windows apps so Linux is out. I also have Win95, WinNT 4.0, Win2K CDs laying around here.
Oh, also, I gather I need to do some partitioning to enable the hibernation - but I don't know the details.
Thanks very much.
