Good luck! I also have an Adaptec (1490-something, IIRC), and it was
recognised right after I chose "CD-ROM" as source in the Mandrake
installer. The only warning I can give you is: For some reason, the
installation was *very* slow (maybe the Adaptec didn't work quite as
smoothly - no idea), so I decided to just install a basic system and add
all other packages later via network, once the system was up and
running.
