Well, coming up to a year? or a half? on the release of the Libretto U100 in Japan, and I just picked up a copy of Best PC sold in Japan. In it, it has the Libretto U100/190NLB selling for 179800 yen or about $1800 USD - 5,600 or about $560 discount for a total of $1238 or so on special sale. Normally, this notebook still goes for about $1690 in Japan, but they do have sales that are killer at Sofmap Akihabara, etc, where you can definitely get a 'steal'. Anyways, at the $1200 or so, it definitely starts to look more and more like a good upgrade to my L100, although I'm still typing and using this old L110 of mine right now to type this letter quite well. (Guess Toshiba really built a great model with the L50-L110 line =) The one thing I'd like would be extra speed so I can watch my Divx movies on this machine, but other than that, it does do everything I want a mininotebook to - email, web, internet, ftp, etc. I hope this also means that soon, Toshiba will be thinking of releasing a new U200 model soon! with all of the minor annoyances fixed (awkward keyboard, terrible mouse pointer, small screen that doesn't use all of the space it has, etc) on the U100 model. In the meantime, the latest Sony T series notebooks with the super-thin LCD display with LED backlighting and direct-one-touch-DVD playback buttons is a very strong contender for a mini-notebook. although heavier than the Libretto U100 by itself, the T series does have a built-in DVD burner and with 5+ hours of continuous runtime, a sure bet for any traveller! (after all, why go with a smaller notebook if it only has 2-3 hours of battery life? that won't even last a days' worth of work...) ----- adorable toshiba libretto The latest news and information for the Toshiba Libretto owner. http://www.silverace.com/libretto/ __________________________________ Start your day with Yahoo! - Make it your home page! http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs
