Subject: RE: [LIB] 100CT RAM swap, overheating, PS/2 port?
From: John Niemi <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
I'm having small problems with my 100CT. Sometimes the Windows 98SE control
panel shows the Libretto to have 32.0 Mb RAM, sometimes 64.0 Mb. I think
the
additional memory chip is loose, or at least that's what I'd like to check
out
first? Where is it located and what is the easiest way to get there?
Sometimes you have to pull the memory upgrade card, and reseat it a few
times. A lot of people have reported problems with their Libby's performing
poorly, and that ended up being the fix when the OS lost track of the card.
Also, conserning memory, I'd like to upgrade to 96 (or more!) Mb, can
someone
tell me where to get 64Mb (or larger!) chips that fit my Libretto? I'm
having
pretty sluggish performance in Win98SE after installing the latest version
of
Opera, F-secure and Microsoft anti-spyware beta. By the way, I have 98lite
installed already. Anyway, I thought the extra memory might help here?
Well... John M. was working on that a while back. Any updates on that John?
Next question, the Libretto is getting pretty hot from the bottom casing.
Has
anyone ever measured the temperature ranges these things should usually
work
fine with... like put a thermometer in a PCMCIA slot and see how much the
inside temps usually are? I have also a 700mhz IBM X21 laptop and the
Libretto
is HOT compared to the IBM. And I haven't yet even overclocked the Libby.
Is
there any way to cool down the unit effectively? I am willing to open it up
and
do some fabrication if needed because...
As long as the Lib BIOS doesn't send it into a thermal shutdown, you're
okay. My Libs have gotten pretty hot... but I've never had other notebooks
for any length of time to compare.
..I'd also like to know how to wire up a PS/2 port directly from the
motherboard. I saw this info on the internet a year ago, but can't find it
anymore, and now my friend has good experience with soldering and a decent
miniature soldeting iron so I'd like him to solder custom made wiring for a
(custom made) PS/2 port straight onto the motherboard. Only thing is that
I'd
need to know whether it can be done, and what are the pins etc. where I
need to
solder the PS/2 wires to?
As I recall, that was Raymond's expertise. Maybe search the archives with
'raybot' as a search term. Will have to leave that to Raymond & those more
knowledgeable than I.
