Subject: PCMCIA CD-ROM problem
From: Vitaly Pavlenko <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
suddenly discovered that my PCMCIA CD-ROM (Panasonic
KXL-830AN) doesn't work with my Libretto anymore.
To be exact, the driver for the PC card
loads OK, but the CD-ROM itself is not detected.

*****Sounds like the problem I had with my PCMCIA
CD-ROM/Burner,the cable between the the pcmcia card and
the drive had a short. The drive
would worked if I twisted the cable in a certain
position.
This is driving me crazy... The CD-ROM _always_ works with
another computer (actually a desktop with ISA-PCMCIA
adapter). With Libretto, it gradually became _completely_
unreliable. I tried to twist the cable and reinsert the
card (actually too many times, but the cable is very well
built in fact) and now once per 100 tries it would work
(but not boot, unforunately). And I can not see any
dependence on the way I insert the card or bend the cable.
I even tried external 6 V power source, same results. The
problem seems not related to power as the disc spins up
normally.
When I replaced the hard disk I looked at PCMCIA
connector, all pins *seemed* fine. Moreover, I didn't have
a single problem with other PC cards. What can it be???
Please excuse my temper, too many things broke recently.
Best regards,
Vitaly
