Hmmm... haven't tried going the DVD route yet. I've been
transcoding/compressing MPEG-2 captures from TV to 352x240 MPEG-1 files with
TMPGEnc that play fine without any overheating issues. I'm in the process of
batch processing a number of TV series captures.
DVDs could be put through a similar process and played right in Windows
Media Player v6.4.
The PCMCIA fan is something I've been interested in for some time though.
I'm convinced that it's HDD heat that has affected MP3 playback after an
hour or so of play in Winamp... something I've seen on a couple of my
Libbys.
