The reason is simply: At line 2075 I found this line: library_names_spec='${libname}${release}${versuffix}.$(test .$module = .yes && echo so || echo dylib) ${libname}${r elease}${major}.$(test .$module = .yes && echo so || echo dylib) ${libname}.$(test .$module = .yes && echo so || echo dylib)' This tests $module against a value, which worked.
