It's Slackware here as well, but I do not use any package management for self-compiled programmes solely used locally. And I agree with Josef - you need to make sure yourself there aren't any stale libs around to mess things up. In my case I manually deleted any relevant libs from /usr/local/lib before installing rtorrent stable. HTH -- left blank, right bald
