Note that libusbx does not maintain a 0.x API, only a 1.x one, so if 
you're planning to do any work on 0.x (I assume that would be on the 
compatibility layer, since 0.x is obsolete), you're going to have to see 
with the libusb guys.

Sure. I don't really see issues with adding backends, though I have 
reservations about how popular Hurd support is going to be, which, and I 
have to be honest here, is likely to have a direct impact on how much 
time we want to invest into that effort.

Due to limited resources, we already have a huge backlog of things we 
need to process, including another backend (WinCE) that has been waiting 
over 6 months now for integration work to start, so be mindful that you 
might not get your patches integrated as fast as you'd like. 
Nonetheless, and time permitting, we're committed to improving libusbx 
and adding features when opportunity knocks, so if you go ahead, we'll 
try to work something out for you.
