Unless you're a libusbx maintainer (or are interested in setting up 
versioning in your own branch in a similar fashion to what we do, in 
which case you should set your BRANCH_OFFSET to something else than 
10000), you shouldn't have to do that. The hooks are for internal 
libusbx use only. The README.txt in the .private directory should also 
state the same.

Well, if you're interested in becoming a libusbx maintainer (reviewing 
patches, commenting and fixing reported issues and so on), we can work 
something for you once you've been on this list long enough and we can 
confirm that both your interest in libusbx is genuine and that you 
should have the capacity to spend the time required to perform the tasks 
above.

However, for a one off patch, we tend not to provide write access, but 
instead let one of the existing maintainers apply it.

I think your patch should be OK, so I'll try to push it to the 
repository tomorrow.
