Writing a test program for this is non trivial I'm afraid. But I think it is safe to say that this patch will fix the issue, given the root-cause analysis of the problem and the straight-forward nature of the patch. It would be good if you could test if the patch does not cause any regressions in any of the tests you usually run under Linux.
