Hi Pete, All, Pete, sorry for snipping away allmost everything here, this is not because I'm not taking you serious, but because I largely agree. The only contention point between us seems to be adding support for ep-comp-desc to 1.x, see my other mail for that.

FWIW, this has nothing todo with proprietary software, there is no proprietary software in Fedora. <snip> >> But we want to cleanup a lot more then just the ss ep comp stuff, >> like sort out how to change our poll abstraction, so that it can >> be used with windows handles too. > > Believe me, it will be some time before we get to poll abstraction. > Also, see above for gradual ABI changes that doesn't need to look back, > because it really shouldn't have to. I think we really wan to fixup the poll abstraction for 2.x, I've no problem starting a new ABI breaking 2.x branch (actually that should be master and the 1.x work should be moved to a branch), but I don't want us to do another ABI breaking release soonish after that. Actually the poll abstraction is what warrants doing an ABI breaking release in my mind, the others are nice to have things we can get for free since we're breaking ABI anyways, but they don't by themselves warrant the price for an ABI break. So TL;DR: lets do a 2.x, but lets do it right and take our time.
