@jwrdegoede I looked at the reference issue and discussion. It seems like that
is a long-standing architectural discussion that would have a much larger
impact than just fixing the item that this pull request addresses.
I'm not clear on whether you're saying this pull request is incorrect or should
not be merged because of the larger API design issue, or if you are simply
asking for additional work in this area?
In the latter case, I don't have the experience to address or the devices to
test the larger issue. I'm simply fixing or adding items that block my current
project as best as I can.
