It should, its basically the open sourced SUN JVM.

However, you'll probably need the java-1.7.0-icedtea-devel package, too for the javac compiler and the JNI includes.

Have java/gcc set up correctly through alternatives ( I use jpackage sun java 1.5.0 on Fedora 7 x86_64)

I've got something called 'java-1.7.0-icedtea' (pulled in as a dependency for OpenOffice). Is that likely to work?
