Unfortunately, I don't see a way:
You use an event instead (automatically reset, initially set):
hEvent = CreateEvent (NULL, FALSE, TRUE, NULL);
To acquire the mutex you use WaitForSingleObject, to release the mutex
you use SetEvent.
