What are extreme large users dir for you?
I have..

NumOfUsers = 1577

But look.. like I mentioned years ago, LICQ supports just the first 600
guys on our contact list and now what I do??
I just run 3 Licqs with the contact in different orders to see people
online, but I only send messages with one of my UINs, the official.. Kinda
dumb?? I think there's no other way to pass through this limitation you say
is a protocol problem...
And thinking myself... 1500 files in a dir is not too much for my filesys,
its integrity is ok...
