As already said, you need a "sound server" to play more than one sound at one moment(the sound server puts the outgoing sounds together). Up to now I have just tried aRTs (where you need to choose "aRTs" as Output at XMMS, and "artsplay" in the ICQ options), which was using a lot of system ressources(well, I'm not using kde, so I don't know if it's different there, but I read it is not better there either).
