Yes, it is annoying. However, we cannot do anything about it inside
Licq really. What would be best is for you to modify your script to
ignore known users of ICQ5.1.

Basically, whenever they open a message window, it will automatically
fetch the away message in the same way other clients read it. So there
is no easy way to differentiate the two actions.
