Move to scala version 2.7.5, that's what is recommended at the moment.
But then again, you don't need to download scala explicitly. Maven (the
build tool used by Lift) would do the needful.
Just install Maven (http://maven.apache.org/) and do:
mvn archetype:generate -DarchetypeCatalog=http://scala-tools.org/
