It does make sense that a beam should be transparent if and only if its
first stem is transparent.
\crossStaff makes transparent one of the stems that it is merging, which
would be an exception to the rule. If that is the only problem, we can
simply have the \crossStaff remove one Stem stencil rather than make it
transparent.
