A dry-run before pushing would not have helped: the repository refuses
pushes that are not fast-forwards anyway. So your history will already
have been a merge history before you pushed. So check with gitk or with
git log --graph --decorate that what you are going to push looks fine.
Usually, not more than
git rebase origin/staging
is needed.
