That would appear to imply that
{ c4 ~ c8 \breathe } is performed differently from { c4. \breathe }
If that is so, it might be worth rethinking this and just use something
like a fixed quarter of one beat instead, or one will not be able to
synchronize something like
{ r4 c4 \breathe } with { e2 \breathe }
