I would expect that an offset of 0 will leave the grob where it is placed
by default, and that any other offset values will refer to this default
position. It’s very impredictable and confusing if specifying an offset
changes the reference for alignment, for example if I specify an offset of
-.2 and the p will remain where it was. And as I agree with the default (as
in the first bar above) it is necessary for consistent behaviour that this
remains the reference when an offset is specified.
