Oh no, there is nothing new of relevance with regard to variable names (they
could contain single dashes and underlines since 2.18, possibly earlier). What
made a difference for this issue, however, is that _lists_ of such names may
now be separated using commata rather than periods. And
\keepWithTags violin,oboe ...
is just nicer to read than
\keepWithTags violin.oboe ...
and that's basically all there is to it. That would have been issue #4798.

I'd rather write:
