I report the ChangeLog number so the developers know exactly what revision I'm using/having problems with. I normally get that number here: http://savannah.gnu.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs/lilypond/lilypond/ Your question prompted me to poke around a bit thinking it should be available somewhere within the source tree.
