I think the proper solution is to have a special handling for bar lines, ie. when a hairpin runs from a note to the first note in the following measure, to attach the right end of the hairpin to the bar line, iso. the note following it. This behavior would be switchable with a property.

Would this really be easier than having a Hairpin.hairpinFullLength property? (while you were away)

I think the method I propose will be easier to get right if the end points has a wide absolute dynamic like sfz.
