\ottava produces *ottava brackets* in the output, so this perfectly makes sense, and \ottava is shorter to type, isn't it Valentin ;-) ? These are my 2 cents, nothing else. I generally don't care so much about command names, so I will no longer argue for this particular command. Maybe set-octavation declaration as public scm function should be scraped BTW.
