BTW, you're "supposed" to edit the file
/etc/texmf/texmf.d/95NonPath.cnf
and then run
update-texmf
(as root)
Excellent! Thanks Graham, that's exactly what I needed
to know. I've bumped it now to 50000 using the "correct"
method, the value you and James have.
