Well, i tried 1b77637344d0eb5361186f7049cb1b0e61720e2f, which is a
direct descendant of ef8dd3eaee73588faf1a6687407a6fda60cff591.
However, i remember from a speech by Linus
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XpnKHJAok8 (0:56:20) that the
committishes being SHA-1 checksums means that the history must be ok
if the hashes match - so our histories up to the point of
ef8dd3eaee73588faf1a6687407a6fda60cff591 should be precisely the same,
did i get it right?

Hmm. I don't remember which version it is (how can i check it? System
-> about Ubuntu says only "You are using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid
Lynx - released in April 2010"), but i've installed it quite a while
ago (it was definately before holidays). I've updated it something
like a week ago.

cheers,
Janek
